I use to take the No.19 bus from Piccadilly before I moved south of the river Thames. These new busses have illuminated advertisement spaces that are lit up with lots of tiny lights. These lights are referencing the dazzling Piccadilly lights that are not seen in this work. I like how, living in London, I can cruse the city in shorts and sandals during the summer while in winter you must ware a heavy coat and be armed with an umbrella.
In 2000 I arrived in London to study at the Royal College of Art. I was confronted with a multicultural society, which was in sharp contrast to the monoculture I had left behind in Ireland. The experience of living in London had a profound effect on my Irish identity in many ways. It changed my attitudes about Britain, which were largely based on negative attitudes about British imperialism. Also for the first time I was a member of a minority and therefore culturally different from other people. In addition I was meeting people from many different cultures, which enabled me to view my "Irishness" laterally.
